the Fiat 500 is expected in American showrooms in 2012

Though the deal seems to be unfolding as planned, federal funding would still be needed to keep Chrysler afloat in the interim. Several members of Congress are objecting to helping out what will essentially become a foreign owned company as another twenty percent of Chrysler's shares are still controlled by Daimler AG. Chrysler needs about three billion dollars to stay afloat and without that help, the strategic alliance could very well collapse.

The all new compact Dodge sedan will be built in the United States and go on sale in late 2011 as a 2012 model. That car will ride on Fiat's "compact wide" architecture currently powering the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Fiat and Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne, calls its "compact wide" platform the most advanced mass-production car ever-built by Fiat.
